iOS 18.2 update came out earlier in 2025 but iPhone users did get a very useful feature which has nothing to do with AI but makes taking calls easy.
iPhone users can now use this Android-like feature for default apps
WhatsApp users got a big push with the recent iOS 18.2 update that makes the messaging app more useful for iPhone users. The January 2025 version did not make the headlines earlier but now the addition of default apps and making it work for other popular apps is a big change for billions in the Apple ecosystem.
If you have been using an Android phone this might not sound like a lot but Apple’s insistence on keeping its walled garden has denied them of these basic features. But, not anymore. So, if you want to use apps like WhatsApp as the default calling app on the eligible iPhones, we’re here to guide you through the steps to make it happen.
iPhone Default Calling App Change: How To Use WhatsApp For Calls
- Tap on Settings in your iPhone
- Scroll down the screen to Apps and open it
- You will see Default Apps tab at the top
- Click on it to change default app for calls, message, email and call filtering
- Go to Calls and select WhatsApp from the menu
Now all the calls or messages will be directed through WhatsApp for your iPhone by default
Because the new feature has been available with the iOS 18.2 update that came out earlier this year, most iPhone models will support the feature who can now make use of WhatsApp as their default setting.
WhatsApp is obviously making sure that more people use its app for calls and video meetings. It has added new features to give it the versatility that other apps in the category are yet to offer for its users.
