Touching on the return of the multi-starrer trend, Sunny said it’s not just about assembling a big star cast.
Shah Rukh Khan and Sunny Deol.
Sunny Deol is open to reuniting with Shah Rukh Khan onscreen, decades after their much-talked-about fallout during the making of their 1993 cult thriller Darr. While the film has found its way back to theatres in a recent re-release, the buzz around it hasn’t faded and neither has the curiosity about a potential reunion between its two male leads.
In a recent appearance on Pinkvilla’s Masterclass, Sunny was asked which actor he would like to share screen space with in a two-hero film. Without hesitation, he said, “Aise decide karna kiske saath karunga nahi… I mean, I would love to do it. I think anyone who is… Shah Rukh ke saath ek hi film ki thi. Toh ek aur kar sakte hain.”
Reflecting on the time that has passed since their last collaboration, Sunny added, “It would be nice because that was a different period, and now it’s a different period, so definitely.”
He also pointed out how filmmaking has evolved over the years. “Pehle humare directors had control over the whole thing. Aaj kal humare directors ke paas itna control nahi hai aur kahaniyaan waisi ban bhi nahi rahi hain, which will justify the images of the actors. Woh bahut zaruri hai,” he explained.
Touching on the return of the multi-starrer trend, Sunny said it’s not just about assembling a big star cast. “Itne saare stars lelo ek picture mein lekin kahaani hi nahi hogi toh kya karoge?” he asked with a laugh.
The Jaat actor said that cinema trends are cyclical. “Definitely it’s interesting aur har cheez ka ek period aata hai. Pehle bhi single heroes hote the fir woh logon ko nahi accha lag raha tha; suddenly then multi-starrers started coming. That became a fashion,” he observed.
Sunny concluded by saying that both producers and audiences influence film trends, and it’s all about adapting to what the viewers want at the moment.
