Rajat Patidar entered his name in the history books on Friday (March 28) by becoming only the second Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) skipper to win an IPL match against Chennai Super Kings at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The 31-year-old right-handed batter from Madhya Pradesh led RCB to a 50-run win over CSK in the IPL 2025 match played at the iconic stadium in Chennai.

After being invited to bat first by CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad in match No. 8 of IPL 2025, RCB posted a total of 196 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs and then restricted the home team to 146/8.

Josh Hazlewood picked up 3 wickets for 21 runs in four overs, and two CSK batters each were sent back to the pavilion by Yash Dayal and Liam Livingstone.

Before Friday’s win, the last time RCB won an IPL match in Chennai against CSK was way back on May 21, 2008. In that match Rahul Dravid was the captain of RCB, and his side successfully managed to defend a total of 126 runs to secure a win by 14 runs.

Patidar top-scored for RCB in the match against CSK on Friday. After coming out to bat at No. 4 for the Bengaluru-based franchise, he faced 32 balls, and with the help of four fours and three sixes, scored 51 runs.

The 51-run knock also helped him become only the second RCB skipper after Virat Kohli to score a half-century against CSK in an IPL match played at MA Chidambaram Stadium. Kohli scored 58 runs from 47 balls for RCB as captain during the IPL 2013 match played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on April 13, 2013.
