Myanmar Earthquake LIVE Updates: Myanmar was rocked by two consecutive earthquakes, measuring 7.7 and 6.4 on the Richter scale, according to United States Geological Survey (USGS) on Friday. The epicentre of the earthquake was reported to be in central Myanmar, nearly 50 kilometres east of the city of Monywa.
The iconic Ava Bridge in Myanmar’s Mandalay collapsed in the quake, and a mosque partially collapsed, killing at least three people. A hospital declared itself a “mass casualty area” as several buildings fell and roads cracked open, prompting the ruling junta to make a rare request for international aid.
Several parts of Thailand also felt tremors of the quake. At least three people were killed and dozens of workers were trapped after an under-construction skyscraper collapsed in Bangkok following the earthquake.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed concerns over the earthquake and offered all possible assistance. He also asked the Indian authorities to be on standby.
