Dilip Joshi became a household name with his performance as Jethalal in the popular comedy show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. The character immediately resonated with the audience and gained him massive success. Its quirky and lovable personality, along with Joshi’s natural acting style, made him a fan favourite. The actor has been a part of TMKOC since its inception in 2008 and continues to entertain audiences. But did you know that Dilip once faced a tough phase in his career when he was out of work for a year and a half before landing the iconic role?
During a previous interview with Dr Priti on her YouTube channel, opened up about his life mantra, which is inspired by a line of the late poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan- ‘Mann ka ho to achaa, naa ho to aur achaa’, which helps him get rid of all the stress.
He stated, “The best way to get rid of stress is to simply go with the flow. We usually feel stressed because we are constantly thinking about the future, and when things don’t go as planned, we become stressed and irritated. So my life mantra is ‘Agar Mann ka ho toh achha, aur na ho toh aur bhi achha,’ which I learnt from Mr Bachchan in one of his interviews many years ago. His father told him this.”
He recalled his struggling days when he was offered a promising role that, unfortunately, did not come through and acknowledged being quite disappointed at the time. However, soon after that, he was offered to play Jethalal, which eventually transformed his life and reinforced his belief in the saying, ‘Mann ka ho to achaa, na ho to aur achaa.’
Dilip stated, “Before TMKOC, I was offered a wonderful role. I was looking for a job at the time because I hadn’t worked in over a year and a half. Despite having 20-24 years of expertise in this industry, I had no work. I was unemployed at the time, and I had a highly attractive offer that did not work out for whatever reason. And I was thinking, ‘Yaar, aise moment par bhi Bhagwan kya pariksha le raha hai.’ But soon I was offered Taarak Mehta.. and I learned that when God plans for you, it is good. This is the secret to fighting stress.”
Apart from TMKOC, Dilip appeared in shows like FIR, Agdam Bagdam Tigdam, Malini Iyer and Hum Sab Baraati. He has also been a part of films like Maine Pyaar Kiya, Hum Apke Hain Koun!, Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, Dil Hai Tumhara, Dhoondte Reh Jaoge and others.
