Manoj Santoshi, the talented writer behind the hit comedy show Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain, passed away in March this year, leaving a profound void in the industry. Santoshi played a crucial role in the show’s success, penning several beloved episodes that continue to entertain audiences. Actress Shilpa Shinde, who originally portrayed Angoori Devi, was deeply affected by his untimely demise. Known for sharing a close bond with Santoshi, Shilpa also extended financial support for his medical treatment, reflecting their deep friendship.
Opening up about the same, her co-actor Aasif Sheikh, known for playing the lead role of Vibhuti Narayan Mishra, is all praise for Shinde as he recalls how the actress completely dedicated herself to his recovery. Speaking to Zoom, Aasif revealed he would often see Shilpa Shinde in the hospital where Manoj Santoshi was undergoing treatment. “I went to the hospital for 2 days, and I have seen her—she used to sit outside the ICU (where Manoj Santoshi was kept). She used to go eat food from the hospital canteen and used to roam around in auto rickshaws, and her aim was to revive Manoj anyhow,” he shared.
He also recalled how the actress ditched her Mercedes, her home, and everything else and used to roam in an auto-rickshaw during the period. Aasif stated that Shinde was helping Manoj out of her love for him and was concerned for his well-being, not out of greed or expectation for work. Revisiting the time when Manoj passed away, Aasif shared how Shilpa Shinde broke down in tears when he consoled her and asked her not to hold herself responsible for his passing.
Following his passing, Shilpa Shinde, in an interview, alleged medical negligence. “It is the worst business to earn money. They were doing dialysis on a dead person. It was a complete fault on the doctor’s part at KIMS, Secunderabad, where he was supposed to have a liver transplant,” she told Times Now. Manoj Santoshi died on March 23, 2025, after a prolonged battle with liver cancer. He was supposed to undergo a liver transplant but died due to complications.
