Uncapped Indian opening batter Priyansh Arya played one of the best IPL knocks of all time on Tuesday (April 8) to seal a memorable win by 18 runs for Punjab Kings in match No. 22 of IPL 2025, played against Chennai Super Kings at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh. The 24-year-old cricketer from Delhi, who earned a deal worth Rs 3.80 crore from Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 mega auction, was on fire from the first ball of the match on Tuesday.
Riding on Arya’s maiden IPL century, PBKS, after opting to bat first, posted a total of 219 runs on the board for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs and then successfully defended it by restricting CSK to 201 for five.
Fans had high hopes from legendary Indian wicketkeeper-batter and former captain MS Dhoni in the 220-run chase, and after coming out to bat at No. 5 for Ruturaj Gaikwad & Co., he tried his best as well to take the five-time champions closer to the target, but it didn’t prove to be enough.
Dhoni, who scored 27 from 12 balls (1 four, three sixes), hammered Lockie Ferguson for back-to-back sixes on the last two balls of the 18th over when CSK needed 55 runs from 14 balls to bring down the equation to 43 from the last two overs and Arshdeep Singh for a four and six on the fourth and fifth balls of the 19th over. But he was sent back to the pavilion by Yash Thakur on the first ball of the 20th over when CSK needed 28 runs to win.
Earlier, in the first half of the match, after becoming only the fourth batter in IPL history to hit six on the first ball of the match, Arya completed his maiden IPL fifty in just 19 balls and needed 20 more balls to slam his maiden century in the world’s richest franchise cricket league.
