The Palamuru Lift Irrigation Project, for which the Telangana government has been demanding national status, is unlikely to get the status.
This was informed to Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy by the Jal Shakthi Minister in a written reply to the question posed by the MP. Mr. Reddy said that the Centre had rejected the national status citing the ongoing dispute with Andhra Pradesh over the division of Krishna water share.
Mr. Reddy said the Ministry also clarified that the initial proposal was submitted by the State in December 2024 seeking the national status. He reminded that the promise of giving national status to an irrigation project in Telangana was given in the Andhra Pradesh Bifurcation Act .
The MP urged the Central Government to interfere in the water share dispute and resolve the issue rather than citing the dispute to give national status to the project.
