Popular K-pop idol Hyeri is earning widespread praise for her performance in the recently released drama Friendly Rivalry. The show generated buzz from the moment its teaser dropped, particularly due to a same-sex kissing scene between Hyeri’s character, Yoo Jae Yi, and Chung Su Bin’s Woo Seul Gi. The much-discussed moment unfolds in a pivotal episode where Yoo Jae Yi joins Woo Seul Gi in the bath, leaving her stunned with an unexpected kiss.

The scene triggered a frenzy among fans, with many praising Hyeri for her bold acting skills. Weeks after the scene made headlines, the K-pop idol has finally broken her silence about kissing a female co-star. In a recent interview, Hyeri was asked about the particular kiss scene and was compared to many of her similar scenes in past shows.

Upon being asked if she felt any different upon kissing her female co-star instead of a male actor, Hyeri sounded at ease, and she admitted that it did not feel any different to her. She also shared that the scene was shot like any other show and that there was not any buildup. “Honestly, I too wondered if it could feel different. But actually, I felt even more at ease. I was comfortable,” she said, leaving the host laughing.

The interview went viral quickly, and fans just couldn’t get over her comments as Hyeri explained her experience of kissing a female co-star. One wrote, “Hyeri did a good job. She literally admitted that kissing Subin was more comforting than kissing men. She’s being obvious by saying that, and Subin is being obvious by promoting this video. It’s romantic. It’s called spark.” Another added, “Comfort is key! Love how she keeps it real.”

“This is the first time I’ve seen a known Korean actress openly talk about liking kissing women more than with men,” a user voiced their thoughts.

Friendly Rivalry is based on a popular webtoon set at the Chaehwa Girls High School. The narrative revolves around a transfer student, Woo Seul Gi, who gets entangled in her classmates’ hidden ambitions and her father’s mysterious death. The show premiered on February 10, 2025.
