In a growing trend in Bollywood, Hindi film producers are not only keenly taking interest in regional cinema but also collaborating with them and helping them release in Hindi mainland. Karan Johar backed Dharma Productions is collaborating with Punjabi superstar Gippy Grewal as he brings his magnum opus Akaal: The Unconquered to the cinema halls on 10th April. Besides Punjabi, the film will also have a wide release in Hindi .
Now in an exclusive interview with ETimes, Gippy Grewal reveals that the idea about having a Hindi release actually came from Aamir Khan. The two superstars have been friends for a long time and in fact during his last major release Carry On Jatta 3- it was Aamir Khan who had launched the trailer of the film in Mumbai, post it Aamir hosted the entire team at his Bandra place.
Talking about Aamir Khan, Gippy revealed , “ He saw the trailer even before we had locked the final version. He really liked it and praised it. We were having breakfast and it was then he suggested that I should do the film in Hindi as well. Till that time I had no plans as such but I already had fixed an appointment with Dharma Productions the same evening and ( what he said happened) .”
Grewal clarified that the film is not a biopic of Akali Nihang Sikh leader Akali Phula Singh Nihang. He stated, “Our story is a work of fiction inspired by the events of the 1840s, following the period after Maharaja Ranjit Singh. It reflects the situation that prevailed in Punjab during that time, drawing from what we have heard and been told by others.”
The film also features Gippy Grewal’s 13 yars old son Shinda Grewal along with Nimrat Khaira, Niketan Dheer,Apinderdeep Singh , Gurpreet Ghugi and Mita Vashisht.
