A loud blast ripped through a house where firecrackers were kept in West Bengal.
At least seven people, including four children, have been killed in an explosion at a firecracker factory in the Patharpratima area of West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district, according to police. Several police personnel were deployed in the area.
As per reports, a house in the Dholaghat police station area was used to make firecrackers, and a loud explosion was heard on Monday evening. The explosion caused a fire, which quickly spread throughout the building. Firefighters and police reached the spot.
“While making firecrackers, there was a sudden explosion. The entire house caught fire,” said South 24 Parganas MLA Sameer Kumar Jana. Two women and fourchildren, were killed in the blast. A woman also suffered injuries in the explosion.
Preliminary investigation suggested that the fire was triggered by a cylinder blast, killing seven people and injuring several others. Sunderban Police District SP Koteswara Rao told news agency PTI that there were two gas cylinders in the house, and the blaze spread after firecrackers stored inside went up in flames.
“All the bodies have been recovered. The injured woman was rescued from the house and admitted to hospital,” he said.

“Bengal today stands at the crossroads of anarchy and terror! On one side, rampant appeasement & illegal infiltrations are threatening India’s sovereignty. On the other, Bengal is being flooded with illegal arms & explosives, all under the protection of the ruling party,” he added.
Last month, an explosion at a firecracker factory in Nadia district killed four people, including two women, according to police. The deceased in the explosion were employees of the factory, according to residents.
